A Step by Step Face Painting Tips And Help Guide – Make Your First Halloween Face Painting Party Memorable

With Halloween comes all manner of celebrations…and face painters. But, if you are new to face painting and this is your first Halloween experience, then you will be feeling excited and maybe just a bit apprehensive all at same time. In that case it’s best to just go for it; as the saying goes, practice makes perfect so to get you started here is an easy step by step face painting clown guide you may find useful.

EASY CLOWN FACE PAINTING: Face painting a clown has to be one of the easiest designs in face painting whilst being popular with children.

1) Start by painting the whole face white. Sponge it on rather than brush. It’s much faster when there’s a large area to paint. Sometimes it’s good to be different so the nose does not have to be red, although most children will probably choose it. But have a couple of other colours available just in case one of your customers fancies a different colour.

2) Next we need a great big smile. When creating the outline of the mouth, you need to take it well above the top and bottom of the mouth and way out onto the cheeks. If you have a few children who have chosen the clown design, then it might be a good idea to consider making the mouth in slightly different sizes and shapes.

3) Make the eyebrows stand out by painting them much larger than the norm in length and width. You can paint them straighter than normal or much more curved to be a little different. Now paint the eyelids up to the eyebrows. You could do different colours here, taking the painting further out to the side. Try painting teardrops under the eyes or even a small star or heart on the cheeks – and have some glitter available for the girls.

EASY CHEEK DESIGNS:  Stick to doing easy in a good way will pay off than trying  start off beyond your capabilities. It’s Halloween so do clever spider and a spiders web. You can make this a small cheek design or a larger one doing the whole side of a  face depending how confident you feel. A bit of shading and glitter will make it stand out, and will look fabulous if wearing a witch costume.

Face painting is an all-year-round craft so anyone thinking of starting to face paint will never run out of events and celebrations to work on. Your tools must be treated with the utmost respect, so if you are doing your first party this Halloween plan it well in advance.

LOOKING AFTER YOUR TOOLS – Always remember children are naturally inquisitive so make sure that, when you have your face painting party, you provide your own little section with all your tools within reach and away from curious little hands that will pick them up and start painting themselves.

FACE PAINTING TIP – When you are face painting a few people use a Q tipped applicator for painting the lips and then just throw it away. People always remember good hygiene habits

PAINTING LINES – You will find liquid paints work best for painting fine lines.

MIRROR – When you have finished your handiwork, the first thing your customer will want to see is your super face painting design so make sure you have a decent sized mirror with you at all times. This is a must-have part of your equipment.

HIGH STOOL – Do yourself a big favour and buy a stool that has a decent height to it. Many learners forget about the stress and strain factor on their backs due to the continuous bending and twisting while actually face painting. If this is ignored, you could soon find yourself out of a face painting job.

HEALTH – General common sense is important and, from every point of view, make sure you wash your hands after every customer. There are plenty of good hand washes you can buy so ensure you always have one with you. Keeping a plentiful supply of wet wipes with you is a must. Face painting is great fun but can get a bit messy sometimes.

Last but not least do have fun, and remember, if you do make mistakes they will probably be more noticeable to you than your customer. Once you have that first party under your belt you will feel so much better.

FANCY DRESS PRETTY WITCH – Fancy dress pretty witch costumes look terrific with or without green face paint. Black lips or very deep red for a splash of colour look stunning and don’t forget the pointed slippers. Then there is the gothic princess look. Gothic is seriously in for this year’s Halloween and it does not have to be dull and dreary either. The costumes for this theme are fabulously bad for both male and female. Spiders web leggings, stockings and socks, along with traditional fishnet tights, are part of the make-up. Don’t forget to add the webbed and fingerless gloves.

HALLOWEEN FOOD – Be the best mum on the block by going green and black with everything. The kids will think you are so cool when you serve them green or black milk with the edible food colouring. Mould some dough into finger shapes, add the colour and some almonds for fingernails and you will have some very spooky fingers. Make some of your children’s favourite cookies and use shaped cookie cutters for some very spooky tasty treats.
