Children’s Halloween Costumes…Why Scooby Doo Costumes May Be a Good Choice?

Even though Halloween is primarily for the kids, children’s Halloween costumes unfortunately are not always designed with safety being the primary objective. Costumes are supposed to be colorful and fun, these are two of the traits found in the Scooby Doo costume line. Sometimes though, we may unknowingly overlook a few important qualities for a safe holiday experience.

Remember when we were young enough to trick or treat? Going from house to house as fast as possible was the main objective. How else were we going to fill our sacks? I’m sure most of our children think the same way today! This is where precautions must be taken to keep our kids free from harm.

Some Costume Safety Suggestions

• Costumes vary from one end of the color spectrum to the other. Consider adding reflective tape which will make your child much more visible at night. This should be done even if the clothing is a light. It is very inexpensive and only takes a couple of minutes to apply.
• After purchasing a new costume, check the fit before Halloween. Most only come in three sizes so some alteration may be needed. Just make sure they are not too long which may cause your child to fall.
• Another point to think about is whether the Halloween clothing comes with a mask. These can provide problems with your child’s sight and sound. The eye holes in many masks are small and there is very limited to almost no peripheral vision. This could become extremely dangerous at night. Masks that cover the head also cause vision problems and block some of the ability to hear. This should be a concern, especially in a busy neighborhood in the dark.

Have you ever considered face paint? This is a great way to let your child choose a” facial disguise” for any costume you buy. If this is a consideration, search online for some ideas. There are ebooks available with creative designs and tutorials in you want to get fancy. This can be a fun experience with your children!
